You Can’t Spell Corporation Without ‘IP’

You Can’t Spell Corporation Without ‘IP’

By Nina Kaufman, Esq.

This tragic story of insufficient planning is just another example from the Department of Not-Beginning-With-The-End-In-Mind. So many entrepreneurs get all “over the moon” about getting launched and off the ground that they ignore thoughts about their exit strategy. What do they want to get out of the business? How will they exit? Will they sell the business or will they want to bring in investors (as was the case here)? If that’s the case, what might be some of the obstacles to accomplishing that goal? As Ryan Roberts reports about these “Shark Tank” losers (kudos for Ryan; I spend my spare time watching NCIS), they had intellectual property that was a vital part of the business.  But the owners of the company (and the company itself) didn’t own the IP outright. No IP, no meaningful business. No meaningful business, no investors. Back to the drawing board. If you liked what you read, watch our video to see if Kaufman Business Law is a good fit for you. Flying solo doesn’t have to mean going it alone.

I’m Nina Kaufman.

I know first-hand that running a knowledge-based service business has unique challenges. It’s so much easier when you have an advocate in your corner. Over the past 25 years, I’ve worked with thousands of New York business professionals who want a legal advisor to guide and support them as they navigate the business world.

With wide-ranging experience as a business attorney, strategist, and media authority, I bring the added power of a business lens to the legal issues my clients are facing.

And because I’ve been a business owner myself, I’ve lived through the soaring highs and devastating lows – like when my first law firm failed. So I understand what’s involved to serve great clients, detect business risks early and build a true legacy.

I can’t get those 12 years back. That’s why I have made it my mission to ensure that business professionals like you can become wise and discerning leaders, build a solid business, and live your best life.
