"Success without successors is failure" ~ Les Brown
By Nina Kaufman, Esq.Some days, you need to work on your business, not just in it. And sometimes, you need to come first. After all, your business can only grow to the extent you grow yourself.
So I spent the day with motivational speaker Les Brown at a meeting of the National Speakers Association, NYC Chapter. Les has a mission: to train 100,000 voices of hope (outside of religion and politics). Who could say “no” to that? An amazing mission that meets the hallmarks of the “Multiplier Effect”:
- It makes the world a better place
- In its focus on “voices of hope” it’s not quantifiable
- It has a multi-generational future
Les also shared a lot of valuable leadership lessons. Similar to Simon Sinek’s premise in “Start with Why” when he points out that “people don’t just buy what you do; they buy why you do it,” Les Brown encouraged us to know that our audiences (and clients) want to know:
- Who are you?
- What do you have/do?
- Why should I care?
What are you prepared to do to reach your success? Who do you have to be to become the next greatest version of yourself? What are you willing to let go of? And who are those successors you can train to continue your work in the world?
I’m starting with Les’ program, “Choosing Your Future,” to clear out the head trash that’s still sitting around. What will you do?
