Listen to the Episode Below:
Every company is unique, and it’s fascinating to learn the ins and outs of how the most successful companies grow to be in that category. Today we’re joined by someone who has taken their business from being the scale of a taxi cab, to the scale of Uber: Tom Clancy.
We drill down into the ins and outs of how he runs his business, and he explains one of his main business models: how he shapes his team into ‘fire squads’ that have a specific focus, and how it helps him to better measure his profits and revenue to analyze and structure his services and offerings.
How Retainer-Based Services Grow Your Business:
- How and why Valiant Technology made the transition from hourly to retainer-based services
- Improving accountability by creating “fire teams” and what inspired their development
- The biggest improvements realized as the result of reorganization
- How Tom created an atmosphere of trust
- The “rotating president” and how Tom and his partners learned to check their egos at the door
Tom Clancy is a third-generation Entrepreneur and troubleshooter, from his maternal grandfather George McCann, running a local handyman business in south queens during World War 2 while the younger men were away at war, to his father working as a mercury outboard racing crew chief, plumber, carpenter, general contractor, to Tom himself fixing his bandmate’s electronics during their time on the road and in studios around the country, and using his “downtime” to service the New York advertising industry’s technology uptown and down. Tom founded Valiant Technology in 2002 with two partners, and thirteen years later they’ve got nearly 30 employees, over 100 active customers and they don’t plan on slowing down their growth and the development of their unique tool kit any time soon.
