You Can’t Scale if You’re Drifting

By Nina Kaufman, Esq.

Interstate 75 isn’t what I’d call picturesque. Well, maybe some parts of it are as it snakes its way from Michigan to Florida. But the stretch where I drove … ? Plainly put—from Gainesville (GA) to Orlando (FL), it’s dull. Monotonous. Routine. And with dusk approaching, it lulled me into a bit of a stupor seeing the broken white lines go past me at 70 miles an hour … when

B-W-A-A-A-A-A-A-H-H !!!!!

Horn! Flashing headlights! I’m drifting into the left center lane, right in front of a dark green tractor trailer!

I shake my head to get out of mental autopilot. Quickly swerve to the right to get back to my lane. The truck driver honks at me again (a Georgia highway version of the middle finger?). A giant billboard of Jesus asks “Have you decided?”

Clearly, I wasn’t focused on where I was going. What was I intending? Caught up in my head, I wasn’t paying attention.

That can happen in our business, too.

What intentions are you setting for your business?

It can’t happen if you’re drifting.
